I Won An Award For Long-Form Writing!

Posted on June 14, 2024June 14, 2024 by Kelly Dunning

I always knew that writing long form marketing content (whitepapers, case studies, guides, etc.) was one of my specialties… but now I have an award that proves it! 🎉

I’ve received the “Long Form Professional” Certificate for my excellence in long-form content.

Here’s what Authory says about this award:

“The Long-form Professional Certificate is a prestigious recognition awarded to individuals who have demonstrated exceptional skills in writing long-form articles. It is awarded by Authory, a trusted platform that conducts regular audits of millions of articles from thousands of professional content creators.

The Long-form Professional Certificate signifies that the recipient has expertise in crafting comprehensive and in-depth content. It serves as credible proof of their ability to produce long-form articles that go beyond the standard length, showcasing their proficiency in providing insights and analysis in their field.”

I’ve always been really, really good at writing long deep-dive articles. I have a talent for researching complex topics, synthesizing a coherent understanding and then breaking it down in a well-organized, easy-to-read way. (And I love doing it!)

Of the 305 articles in my Authory profile, 157 of them are over 1000 words!

Some of my tips for long-form writing?

💡The outline stage is absolutely crucial. Longer content gets unwieldy if it’s not well organised, so take the time to make sure you’ve got the structure and flow nailed down.

💡I tend to work on the draft in a non-linear way, jumping around as I “add the meat on the bones” of the outline. Sometimes while writing one section, I’ll discover a statistic or some research that fits better in another section, so I keep the “Outline” visible on Google Docs so I can easily click to a different part of the document.

💡No matter how long the overall piece is, each section should be bite-sized and easy to scan. If one particular section gets too long, break it up into smaller sub-sections or add bullet points.

💡I always save the introduction for last. Otherwise, you’re writing an intro for a piece that doesn’t exist yet! If you save it until last, you’ll know exactly what you’re setting the reader up to expect.

Here’s to sinking my teeth into many more long-form writing projects in the future!
